CANADA - Victoria
Following on from a successful Christmas dinner in 2006, November 2007 saw a few of our alumni brave the cold to meet for a festive dinner, drinks and a good old catch-up at the Mosaic Grill in Victoria. Many thanks to those who attended and to those who sent their apologies.
There will be another opportunity for Warwick alumni in the Victoria area to come together on 14 March. WGA representative Amali De Silva-Mitchel will be hosting a curry dinner buffet in the Bengal Lounge of the Fairmont Empress Hotel. The meal will take place from 7pm onwards and dress code is smart/formal.

HONG KONG
BC Hong Kong Celebration 60 Launch Reception
Last March saw the launch of the British Council's English Online initiative in Hong Kong and a number of Warwick alumni were on hand to celebrate.
The event saw the launch of an interactive networking website for English learners in Hong Kong, complete with caption contests, communal story-writing exercises and download features.
Like the popular networking website Facebook, the British Council's English Online invites English language learners to sign up, create a profile and add friends. In addition, users can also download information and exercises, share their blogs on the website and take part in interactive games designed to improve English skills.
Sixty alumni who have graduated from universities in Britain were invited to attend the ceremony, four of whom were Warwick Graduates. They were Chip Tsao, Roy Chung, David Li and Martin Lee who were accompanied by representatives Manita So and Nancy Chui from the Warwick Graduates' Association Hong Kong office.
The event saw many of the alumni reminisce about their first experiences in Britain and it is hoped that this new initiative will be a flagship for students of English living in Hong Kong.

TAIWAN
The Taiwan Alumni Association held their 'Warwick Charity Night Gathering' in November in Taipei. Taiwan Alumni Chairman, Dr. Jay-San Chen, opened the event which was attended by 80 former Warwick students. Jon Inegbedion from the International Office and Ms Lucia Guo from the Warwick Manufacturing Group (also Warwick graduates) represented the University at the gathering. Money raised during the evening was donated to Taiwan's 'Children Are Us Foundation', a charity organisation supporting children with special needs and 'Taipei Kuan-Du Natural Park Foundation'. During dinner, three alumni gave presentations about their Warwick days and their professional /voluntary work in Taiwan:
Jenny Wu 1994-95 MBA, Sales Assistant General Manager, Lung Yen Life Service
Jones Wu 1993-94 MSc in EBM, General Manager of OPTI International Corporation
Sophia Wu,1999-00 MA in ELT, English Teacher at Wanfang Senior high school and volunteer at the Taipei Kuan-Du Natural Park Foundation.
As well as raising money for two charities, the event also served as an excellent networking opportunity for newly returned graduates looking for a job. A prize was offered to anyone who exchanged the most business cards during the evening! An election was also held to select 20 new committee members who will serve for the next two years.

The final Washington DC Warwick alumni drinks event of 2007 was held in December at Mortons Bar. WGA Representative Fergus Mellon was host for the evening, which saw a broad range of alumni come together for drinks, a catch-up and some lively debate.
Fergus and his DC counterparts have settled on regular Thursday meetings at Mortons and the next event will be publicised on the overseas section of the WGA website.
