Sally Nicholls

The winner of the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize for 2008 was Sally Nicholls (BA Philosophy and Literature 2002-05) for her debut novel, Ways to Live Forever (Marion Lloyd Books). The novel is a powerful story told in the voice of an 11 year old boy who is terminally ill with leukaemia.

Sally is now working on her second novel, The Midnight Hunter, based on a pagan myth.


Michelle Brogan

Michelle Brogan (BA English Literature and Creative Writing 2003-06) has joined Quicksilver PR, a Midlands PR consultancy, as a consultant. She was previously at The Independent and has also worked for publishing house, Conde Nast.

Dexter O'Neill

Dexter O'Neill (BA Theatre and Performance Studies 2003-06) is a producer at Fantom Films which has just released an audio book based on the book, Warwickshire Murders. From a Leamington man's drunken attack on his mother over a fish supper to the IRA bombing of Coventry in 1939, some of the county's most brutal and gruesome killings are brought to life.

Hareesh Kallambella

Hareesh Kallambella (MSc Electronic Business Management (Overseas) 2004-5) has won the Business Leader of Tomorrow Award, through taking part in the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). He was chosen from over 1000 KTP associates.

KTP is a programme to help businesses improve their productivity by funding strategic project work for graduates and accessing knowledge and expertise from universities. Hareesh was employed by UCLan to take up a KTP associate position with Jones Stroud Insulations Ltd (JSI) in Preston, and was given the task of spearheading the company's ambitious improvement plans. He implemented new methodologies for product and process improvement and proved to be a key success factor and invaluable asset to the company.


Admas Habteslasie

Admas Habteslasie (BA Film and Literature 2000-03) has won a full scholarship to study on the Graduate Diploma in Law Course at Kaplan Law School in London. Worth £10,000, the prize was awarded to Admas for his essay on the legal implications of developing a universal DNA database.

Admas is currently working as a Briefing Co-ordinator at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, researching and producing ministerial briefings. In his spare time, he volunteers at the Southwark Law Centre, researching legal issues and interviewing clients, and at the Eritrean Embassy in London, preparing briefings on current affairs and business news for the Ambassador.


Gunmeen Bhasin

Gunmeen Singh (formerly Bhasin, MA International Relations 2002-03) recently published book is Lifting the Veil - Position of Women in Gulf Cooperation Council States (Samskriti).

She is currently based in New Delhi, India having worked with Amnesty International India. For the last three years she has been working as Associate Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation- a prominent think-tank based in New Delhi that aims to influence formulation of policies for building a strong and prosperous India.
