| This summer the Students' Union as we know it will be changing forever. Starting in June the Union building is going to be radically redeveloped to ensure that it meet the needs of Warwick's ever-growing student body. Designed for 2,000 students, the Union now has to cater for over 20,000. The building will be closed until autumn 2009 when it will re-open.
To mark the end of one era and the beginning of a new one, over 1,500 friends and alumni of the University came back to the campus on 29 March to attend RAZE, a party in its honour. The aim of the evening was to have one get down and get funky in the old Union building one last time and to send it off in style. As the building was completed in 1974, it was only fitting that the theme of the party of was partying 70s style. Party goers didn't need much encouragement and by the time the event kicked off, the Union was wall to wall flares, purple polyester and wigs.
Guests spanned the years of the Union's life, some of whom remembered when it was first opened whilst others were coming back to campus for the first time after graduating last year. With all the 70s-inspired costumes on display and so many Huggy Bears, John Travoltas and assorted members of ABBA it was hard to pick a winner in the fancy dress competition but in the end the judges picked Wonder Woman for her authentic costume.
