Changing career – you can make it happen!
The WGA with the Careers Centre ran two Career Change Workshops for alumni in February and April this year. Alumni of all ages and from a wide range of career backgrounds attended and had the opportunity of a whole day to focus on themselves and what they wanted out of their career. Through a series of structured exercises and reflections, they were able to identify their career goals and develop an action plan to get there.
For career change to happen, you need to take action, otherwise it will remain as simply a daydream. Therefore, if you are considering a change of direction yourself and would like some advice and guidance to get things moving, don't forget that subscribing WGA members (and all those within three years of graduation) can use the services of the Careers Centre, including an appointment with Jane Elkins, the Graduate Careers Consultant.
Networking for success
Recent graduates in the London area got together in March for a Networking Skills event at the offices of Citi in Canary Wharf (the venue having been kindly offered by a Warwick alumnus). The evening involved a mixture of advice and information about how to use networking skills, together with lots of opportunity to practise these through practical exercises. As well as learning some useful tips, alumni also enjoyed making some new contacts as well as catching up with old friends.
If you would like some further information about how networking can be used as part of an effective job hunting strategy see the Networking Guide on the Careers Centre website. |
