NEW 'GIVING TO WARWICK' WEBSITE

To provide more information for our current donors and all those graduates who are considering making a contribution to our fundraising activities, a new site has been developed: www.warwick.ac.uk/giving. Do feel free to take a look at the site and find out more.

This site contains information on our ongoing fundraising activities, such as the Annual Fund Telephone Campaigns and Reunion Dinners, as well as providing up-to-date details on current special projects.

Feedback about your support
We know our donors are interested to find out what their support has achieved and so will continually update the site with the latest news and campaign figures. The latest edition of Benefactors is available to read on the site, as are testimonies from Warwick donors and students who have benefited from scholarships and bursaries.

On-line giving
On-line giving facilities will be available on this site – both for credit/debit card donations and regular payments. In addition, you can download and print off the relevant forms to make a standing order to Warwick or to sign a Gift Aid declaration.

Details on how to make a bequest to the University of Warwick Foundation are also provided.

All members of the Development and Alumni Relations Office team are listed with their contact details – along with a short summary of their main responsibilities. They are on hand to help you with any queries or requests you may have – if you are not certain which member of staff is the most appropriate to contact, you can fill in the general enquiries form HERE.

FIRST WGA SCHOLARS GRADUATE

The Summer Graduation ceremony in July marked a very special point in the WGA Scholarship Scheme, with some of the first intake of WGA Scholars graduating. These scholars began their studies in October 2000 and many of them received their scholarships through the financial support of Warwick graduates and friends.

The scheme has been a great success, but unfortunately there are never enough scholarships in order to award to each eligible applicant. If you would like to find out more about how you could help to create additional scholarships for deserving students here at Warwick, please click here.

Here are the thoughts of some of our graduating scholars about those who have made their academic ambitions a reality:

'WGA Scholarship? Who are they? Why do they want to give me money? I don't know, but I was happy to fulfil my part of the equation! Now as a graduate of Warwick, I get it. It's a chance to help people in exactly the same situation as your younger self get along. As an undergraduate at Warwick, I benefited from the WGA Scholarship. As a graduate of Warwick I can begin to repay the kindness I was afforded. It's a cycle of help. It's a cycle of help in times of uncertainty regarding university education. The WGA is a friendly face.'
WGA Scholar, graduating in English Literature in Summer 2003

'By choosing to come to Warwick, I have had the privilege of being taught by the most able teachers, with both passion and dedication. The WGA scholarship has assisted me in this challenge of pursuing my education and has helped me to flourish – not only in the technical sense, but also as a young individual. The scholarship has allowed me to participate in university life more fully and I have had the opportunity to become an active member of student societies. Such experiences have helped me to develop existing skills and to harness new ones.'
WGA Scholar, graduating in Economics in Summer 2003

'I embarked upon my Law degree in 2000 with the fortune of being awarded a WGA Scholarship. I am very grateful [for this scholarship] as it has helped to make my time at Warwick a very pleasurable one. With the financial pressures of university reduced somewhat by the scholarship, I have been able to get involved in many extra-curricular activities during my time here. My three years at Warwick have been enjoyable and memorable and the WGA Scholarship has played an important part in this.'

ONE SCHOLAR'S STORY .....

One of the graduating WGA scholars this Summer was Simon Parkes, who graduated with a first class degree in English Literature. Simon has been very involved in our efforts to fund additional scholarships and other alumni relations activities. He has been a very successful member of our Student Calling Team and also has helped with the organisation of numerous reunion and fundraising events as well as the WGA Graduation Stand this summer. This is his story ....

'On a cold morning in October 2000 I went along to meet and thank the people who had provided me with a much needed and appreciated scholarship. Half an hour later I walked out with a part-time job and the spark of a passion for the Annual Fund. In the three years of working with the Warwick Graduates Association I have come to realise that I will never be able to meet and thank all of the people who made my scholarship possible.

Life at Warwick would have been very different for me without the WGA Scholarship that I received. I had imagined things would be tough, I knew I would need to work part-time, but I don't think I fully grasped the financial reality of Higher Education in the present climate. Without all of those graduates taking the time to talk to a current student and deciding to assist the Fund, I might not have survived the first term, let alone have been able to give the level of commitment to my studies that I did.

My part-time work has never needed to be to the detriment of academic effort as is often the case with less fortunate students. The scholarship gave me room to manoeuvre, space to strive to make my time at Warwick as worthwhile as possible. As I look forward to Postgraduate study I am pleased to be able to acknowledge the debt of gratitude that I, and the many who will follow me, owe to the graduate benefactors of the Annual Fund. Thank you and I hope you can go on helping to change lives; maintaining your university as an example of the widest possible social access.'
