GET INVOLVED!
Have you ever wondered how the WGA is run? Would you like to be more involved in planning events, services and benefits for graduates and in deciding which good causes the subscription income will be used to support? Could you represent the views of graduates on current higher education and University issues to the Vice-Chancellor?
Nominations for Committee posts for 2004/05 (Oct to Oct) are now open. To be considered you should be a WGA subscriber and should be nominated by two other Warwick graduates. You can request a form by emailing the Alumni Relations Officer - tess.robinson@warwick.ac.uk.
The commitment is voluntary but not onerous. It involves five evening meetings per year. Travel expenses are covered if necessary and you will be invited to a delicious three course dinner after each meeting.
Current committee members were asked what they would say to graduates who were thinking of getting more involved, here is what two of them said:
'We operate in a non-bureaucratic fashion and encourage new and challenging ideas at our meetings. Youll have a big say in the long-term direction of the Association and have the satisfaction of seeing a professional Alumni office deliver the programmes that you have helped to design.'
Colin Stump, President (Economics 1974-79)
'The clue is in the title - its the Warwick Graduates Association - its your association and every person that joins and gets involved brings a great wealth of personal experience that adds a richer hue to the Association. I have gained enormous satisfaction through being part of the WGA and latterly the Executive Committee and have no hesitation in encouraging anyone who is thinking of getting involved.'
Richard Walsh (MA International Studies 1996-98)
As Richard says, this is your Association – get involved!

GRADUATE JOBSEEKING WORKSHOP
Are you recently graduated and ready to launch yourself on the graduate jobmarket ? Are you looking for a boost to help you get that dream job ?
Why not come along to our free 2-day jobseeking workshop for Warwick graduates on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 September? The workshop is highly interactive and covers how to clarify your career direction, seek out job opportunities and improve your application and interview techniques. There will be a chance to network with other Warwick graduates and to receive one-to-one support from a careers adviser.
This will be the second time that we have run the workshop. The first one was a great success. Here are some comments from graduates who attended the workshop last time:
"I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and would certainly recommend it for the future at Warwick, and to other graduates….Listening and learning from other graduates experience was very useful."
"Excellent. I found my ideal job, writing for a national magazine - probably thanks to my new CV !"
"These workshops have given me the confidence and knowledge that I need to adjust my approach to finding work. I found the sessions both constructive and supportive with practical, clear approaches to the problem of finding work delivered in a relaxed environment…I hope that you will continue to offer these workshops in future years."
